Lots of discussion over news and leftist politics at RevLeft but it used up too much of my time fighting with those brainwashed by capitalism. Some more anarchist-oriented, but less active forums are at Infoshop and Flag. |
I do not feel obliged to believe that the same God who has endowed us
with sense, reason, and intellect has intended us to forgo their use.
-- Galileo Galilei |
In Germany they came first for the Communists, and I didn't speak up
because I wasn't a Communist. Then they came for the Jews, and I didn't
speak up because I wasn't a Jew. Then they came for the trade unionists,
and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a trade unionist. Then they came
for the Catholics, and I didn't speak up because I was a Protestant.
Then they came for me, and by that time there was no one left to speak up.

I would have promised those terrorists a trip to Disneyland if it would have
gotten the hostages released. I thank God they were satisfied with the
missiles and we didn't have to go to that extreme.
- Oliver North | Now and then an innocent man is sent to the Legislature. |
A bill that denies recognition of same-sex marriages is about to become law. No, I'm not gay either, but what's next? Let's deny recognition of interracial marriages. Let's deny recognition of religions that don't accept Christ as the Savior. Is it time to burn down the Reichstag and declare martial law yet? |
"If you steal from 1 you are plagarizing.
If you steal from 10 you are doing research.
If you steal from 100 you are an expert." -B. Delaney |
I see in the near future a crisis approaching that unnerves me and causes me
to tremble for the safety of my country... corporations have been enthroned
and an era of corruption in high places will follow, and the money power of
the country will endeavor to prolong its reign by working upon the
prejudices of the people until all wealth is aggregated in a few hands and
the Republic is destroyed.
- Abraham Lincoln, predicting the betrayal of his own party, Nov 21 1864 |
F. Scott Fitzgerald: Let me tell you about the very rich. They are
different from you and me.
Ernest Hemingway: Yes, they have more money. |
The Welfare Reform Bill is now law. It will require single parents to find jobs after a time limit has expired. But where are these jobs coming from? Will they magically appear? If not, will jobless families be left to starve? Maybe they can join the legalized counterfeiters in the gold mines. In 1995, Social Security, the military, interest on the national debt, Medicare, and Medicaid accounted for over 70% of the federal budget, while welfare (Aid to Families with Dependent Children) together with foreign aid accounted for less than 3%. Why are our politicians fighting over a few percentage points? |
Crime does not pay... as well as politics. |
Some people are born on third base and go through life
thinking they hit a triple.
-B. Switzer |
So you want to buy a president? Ever wonder why you have absolutely no chance of becoming president? Is it your lack of education? Is it your poor decision-making abilities? Is it your lack of morality, any sense of right and wrong whatsoever? No. It's because you have neither the money nor the wealthy backers who have their hands planted firmly in your pockets. Are we living in a democracy of people or a democracy of dollars? |
If Jesus Christ were to come today, people would not even crucify him.
They would ask him to dinner, and hear what he had to say, and make fun
of it.
-- Thomas Carlyle |
"The Book says BURN and DESTROY repent and redeem and revenge and deploy and

NAPOLEON: What shall we do with this soldier, Guiseppe? Everything he

GUISEPPE: Make him a general, Excellency, and then everything he says will be right. |
The American Civil Liberties Union (in Illinois, Indiana, South Carolina, and everywhere else across the nation) has been defending the underdog and the Constitution for decades, no matter what the circumstances. |
I used to think I was poor. Then they told me I wasn't poor, I was needy.
Then they told me it was self-defeating to think of myself as needy.
I was deprived. (Oh not deprived but rather underprivileged.)
Then they told me that underprivileged was overused. I was disadvantaged.
I still don't have a dime. But I have a great vocabulary.
-Jules Feiffer (1965) |
The Law, in its majestic equality, forbids the rich, as well as the
poor, to sleep under the bridges, to beg in the streets, and to steal
bread.
-- Anatole France |
You avoid them on the street, you look the other way, and you wonder why the world's greatest power even needs the National Coalition for the Homeless. It's a wonder a nation of this size and wealth even has a problem at all. Take a walk in someone else's shoes. |
Aide to Raygun: Sir, the poor are outside protesting your budget cuts.
Raygun himself: Tell them they'll have to help themselves. Aide to Raygun: Sir, the Pentagon wants another $30 billion. Raygun himself: Tell them to help themselves. |

"I think every good Christian ought to kick Falwell's ass."
- Senator Barry Goldwater, when asked what he thought of Jerry Falwell's suggestion that all good Christians should be against Sandra Day O'Connor's nomination to the Supreme Court |
The truth is that Christian theology, like every other theology, is not only
opposed to the scientific spirit; it is also opposed to all other attempts
at rational thinking. Not by accident does Genesis 3 make the father of
knowledge a serpent -- slimy, sneaking and abominable. Since the earliest
days the church as an organization has thrown itself violently against every
effort to liberate the body and mind of man. It has been, at all times and
everywhere, the habitual and incorrigible defender of bad governments, bad
laws, bad social theories, bad institutions. It was, for centuries, an
apologist for slavery, as it was the apologist for the divine right of kings.
- H. L. Mencken |
Physical strength has nothing to do with intelligence. It only allows me to force my opinions upon you, but NOW is working to end those centuries of backwards thinking. |
In capitalism, man exploits man. In communism, it's exactly the opposite. |
You can elect any government you want, as long as it's capitalist. - Our Ford | What's the difference between God and Rush Limbaugh? God doesn't think he's Rush Limbaugh. |
Sometimes you have to wonder when the Democratic National Committee will get its act together, but until then, they are all we've got. |
Eighty percent of air pollution comes from plants and trees.
-- Ronald Reagan [famous movie star] |
I'm frankly sick and tired of the political preachers across this country
telling me as a citizen that if I want to be a moral person, I must believe
in "A," "B," "C," and "D."
And I am even more angry as a legislator who must endure the threats of
every religious group who thinks it has some God-granted right to control
my vote on every roll call in the Senate.
- Barry Goldwater, Congressional Record, 9/16/1981 |

War hath no fury like a non-combatant.
-- C. Montague |
Naturally the common people don't want war... but after all it is the leaders
of a country who determine the policy, and it is always a simple matter to
drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship,
or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people
can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you
have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists
for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same
in every country. -- Hermann Goering, non-combatant |

Forget the rhetoric and take a look at hard numbers for our budgets for 1996 and 1997. Also, take a look at the state budget for a place like New York. How about the myth of overpopulation? Maybe if all the people who control government live in places like Washington D.C. (8800 per square mile) and all the people who control the media live in places like Singapore (12,000 per square mile), we would actually believe the whole world were overpopulated. Leaving aside marine colonies for the moment, how about a nearly food-secure nation like India (790 per square mile) which turns out to be about as dense as New Jersey and Japan. How about Indonesia (290) about as dense as Pennsylvania and France? How about Spain at 200? Or Mexico at 120 (like Tennessee)? Or Brazil at just 48? Or Russia at 9! Where does our good old U.S. of A. (home of the Big Apple and the City of Angels) fall into the big picture? Right up there with Wisconsin at 73 per square mile. We're pratically suffocating here! |
It does me no injury for my neighbor to say there are twenty gods or no God.

On the afternoon of March 13, 1993, Winchester B Fleen of Toad Sphincter,
Arkansas, was abducted by large-brained beings who drilled holes in his

samples of his organs and drained his body fluids before they found out that
he did not have health insurance, at which point they released him back into
the hospital waiting room.
